Cellar

Girlan is one of the oldest, if not the oldest wine village in South Tyrol. There is hardly anybody from the village who is not involved with the cultivation, preparation, or marketing of wine in some way. Besides having two big wine cooperatives, wine is also produced privately, which is often, and happily, tasted and enjoyed in the many wine cellars known as “Tiefen”. Almost every farmhouse has a so-called “Tiefen” cellar, which is an underground cellar. They say that once upon a time the village was bigger and more spacious under the ground that it was above.

Here at Lochererhof, the Tiefe is one of the landlord’s favourite places. It is a great place to taste some wine, and then try some homemade schnapps. If you like, for a small additional charge, the wine cellar – the Tiefe – can be rented and we would be happy to arrange a wine tasting for you in this very special place.
